Exchange between drainage systems and surface flows during urban flooding: Quasi-steady and dynamic modelling in unsteady flow conditions

چکیده
The accurate modelling of urban flooding constitutes an integral part flood risk assessment and management in residential industrial areas. Interactions between drainage networks surface runoff flows are commonly modelled based on weir/orifice equations; however, this approach has not been satisfactorily validated unsteady flow conditions due to uncertainties estimating the discharge coefficients associated head losses. This study utilises experimental data exchange sewer floodplain through a manhole without lid develop two alternate approaches that simulate interaction describe flow. A quasi-steady model links total pipe losses manhole, whilst dynamic takes also into account evolution water level within at discrete time steps. developed numerical models subsequently against large-scale for conditions, featuring variable surface. Results confirmed both can accurately replicate with improved performance when compared existing methodologies only weir or orifice equations.

متن کاملNumerical Investigation on Contaminant Dispersion from a Source over the Blocks in Steady and Unsteady Flows
This paper deals with numerical study of semi-finite incompressible flow of air over two blocks with different heights in the presence of a condensing-source, dispensing- contaminant in the flow, in both steady and unsteady states. The numerical solution of governing PDE equations are constructed by a finite-volume method applied on structured grid arrangement. The effects of air flow velocity,...
متن کاملunsteady free surface flow in corrugated drainage pipes: finite volume solution and experimental verification
a subsurface drainage network mainly carries unsteady flow and data are not usually available for model parameters calibration in such networks. in the present research, the finite volume method using the time splitting scheme was employed to develop a computer code for solving the one dimensional unsteady flow equations. using corrugated sub drainage pipes, an experimental prototype setup was ...
متن کاملSediment Transport in Unsteady Flow Conditions
Sediment transport under unsteady flow condition is studied experimentally. In the first step, sediment transport under different steady flow conditions was measured and an empirical equation was derived for its calculation. In the next step, two continuous and three stepwise hydrographs were generated in the flume, and their sediment transport rate was measured. The continuous hydrographs were...
متن کاملMathematical Modelling of Integrated Urban Drainage Systems
Today, the main concepts required for describing the dynamics of drainage in an entire urban area are known and models are available that can reasonably simulate the behaviour of the urban water system. Still, such integrated modelling is a complex exercise not only due to the shear size of the model, but also due to the different modelling approaches that reflect the history of the submodels u...
